Whether you are writing for a particular website or for your own, blogging is a great way to get your ideas and message across to your target audience. Well, it is almost the only way these days since everything has gone digital-especially communication.
As a result, blogging is very competitive. You have to compete with thousands of blogs for the attention and interest of your target audience. How can you do it? Well, here are seven blogging tips you can use to get started, gain and maintain interest in your blog.
1. Find out what you want to say
To start and sustain a blog, you need to know what it will be about. In this way, you will hardly run out of content. Your target audience is dependent on what you are writing about, not the other way round. This means that some people will like what you are writing and others won’t. Don’t worry about that. Be brave and write what you believe is true.
Plus, this attitude will help you brand your blog and write stronger search engine-friendly articles to bring in more people who will be interested in what your blog has to offer.
2. Get to the point
As the meme goes, ‘Ain’t nobody got time for that’!” Figure out the point for a particular post and make it in the fewest words possible. No one has time to read an entire novel while waiting for you to make your point. In the world of blogging, less is most definitely more.
3. Talk to the people
Make your blog posts as personable as you can. Write as if you are talking to a friend. Your personality is part of what will attract and maintain interest in your blog, so let it shine through.
4. Help them talk back
Encourage interaction on your blog – both between you and your ‘audience’ and among your readers. Ask for feedback on your blog and respond to as much of the feedback as you can. Link your blog posts to your social media pages to facilitate more feedback. By welcoming conversation, you will create something of a community around your blog.
5. Be consistent
This is important for both your writing and your blog’s theme. Make sure that your blog posts are posted regularly (whatever that means to you) and then make sure they visually look the same. Most website design reviews recommend consistency in the color scheme, font and overall format of a website and the same applies to your blogs. Mixing things up may throw people off.
6. Include Images
Images attract attention to your content and make it easier to read and understand it (remember the visual aids in school?). Put in as many images as you can to break up the text and help your audience follow the story in your blog.
7. Catchy titles
Based on your topic, there are certain words or phrases that are more likely to appear in a web search of that topic. Make sure these words appear in your title and your content in order to attract traffic to your website and blog posts.
That is how to start and sustain a successful blog. Happy blogging!
